Returning to pre-school or starting pre-school/school, here is a useful guide from My happy Mind

Coronavirus
We work hard to follow the government guidelines and keep our setting a safe space. Please support us by following procedures that have been put in place, bear with us when we have to make changes at short notice and please stay home if anyone in your family is showing symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions - September 2020 return to pre-school

What if my child is anxious about coming back to school? Please let us know as soon as you can so we can work with you on helping your child to feel positive and safe about returning. Every child is different and we will work together to find the best way to offer a supportive transition.
Will ‘bubbles’ still be in use? According to government guidelines, Early years settings are not required to have ‘bubbles’.
What can my child bring to school? Please prepare a bag with spare clothing and if required nappy changing facilities for the week, so the bag can be left within the setting. We plan on spending more time outside, therefore please make sure your child is wearing the appropriate clothing and footwear.
If your child is staying for lunch, please bring a named lunch box. During lunch times children will be spread out more and lunchboxes will not be placed on tables. Handwashing will take place before and after lunch.
Home/school books and bags. Unfortunately we will not be providing home/school books or activities bags until we have more government information.
What are the requirements for  face covering? Children and staff will not be permitted to wear face coverings. If a child displays signs of Covid during the session, the staff member may wear a face covering whilst looking after the child and awaiting the child to be collected by their parent.  Parents are not required to wear face coverings during pick up or drop off, however if required to come into the setting grounds they will be asked to wear a face cover.
Will the one-way system still be in place on the school site? The one-way system worked well throughout the summer term, enabling parents and children to safely move around the site. There will be arrows in place, guiding all parents and children around the building for drop off and collection times. It is vital that this system is followed as there are narrow parts of the site.
Where will I drop off my child?

What are you doing about cleaning?
  • The pre-school will be fully cleaned at the end of each day and there will be regular cleaning ongoing throughout each day.
  •  All door handles, indoor and outdoor, and toilets/sinks will be cleaned or disinfected frequently.
  • All soft furnishings, including bean bags, soft toys and materials, which may be difficult to clean have been removed.
  • All hard surfaces will be cleaned regularly.
  • Children will be supervised washing their hands on a regular basis, particularly before eating any food and after playing out.

Payments for uniform or fees.
  • Parents need to provide the correct money for payments as we will be unable to give change. This needs to be in a sealed envelope or money bag, clearly labeled with the child’s name and what the payment is for.
What happens if a child shows Covid-19 symptoms in my child’s class? The pre-school will immediately isolate the child from other children and staff, whilst the child is reassured and cared for by a member of the team. The parent or carer of the child will be contacted straight away to collect their child immediately. It is vital that we can contact someone for EVERY child at ALL times. The areas and resources used by the child will be thoroughly cleaned using the recommended cleaning products and procedures. The parent of the child displaying symptoms will need to arrange a test for their child, informing the school of the results as soon as possible. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/
If a child or staff member tests positive for Covid-19, an immediate risk assessment will be undertaken with the local public health team. This will inform us of what actions need to be taken.
Someone in my house is displaying symptoms, what should i do? If someone in your household is displaying symptoms, everyone needs to self-isolate for 14 days. Do not bring your child to pre-school. Please contact us and follow government guidelines to get a test.
Please read the information on this NHS link which is really helpful: When to self-isolate and what to do - Coronavirus (COVID-19)
